The quake struck at 3:32 a.m. (9:32 p.m. ET Sunday) about 95 kilometers (60 miles) northeast of Rome and about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) deep. Rescuers were called out to the city of L'Aquila, at the quake's epicenter.
