Overview of PMI Continuing Certification Requirements The PMI Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR) supports the ongoing educational and professional development of PMI certified PMPs. PMPs must accrue a minimum of 60 Professional development units (PDUs) during each CCR cycle, return the Application for Certification Renewal, and comply with the PMI Code of Professional Conduct to maintain their certification status. PDU activities completed prior to obtaining certification are not accepted toward the renewal requirements. PMPs are not allowed multiple credit claims for repeated participation in the same student based learning activity throughout the history of their certifica-tion. (Do not claim student participation in the same course more than one time.) PMPs should check the PMI Web site (www.pmi.org) regularly for the latest information on the renewal program. Determining your CCR cycle timeframe A PMP’s first cycle begins on the date they successfully complete the certification examination and ends on December 31st of the third full calendar year following the year of their examination. For example: an examination date of 31 July 2004 results in an expiration date of 31 December 2007. All following renewal cycles are exactly three years in length beginning on the first day after the prior cycle’s expiration date. Using the previous example the next renewal cycle would be 1 January 2008 through 31 December 2010. For reference, each PMP’s renewal cycle dates are listed on their PMP certificate along with their unique PMP Certification number.
